Model Simar Dugal loses battle with cancer at 52
Ritu Kumar pens heartfelt tribute, celebrities from fashion and film industries mourn demise
Guwahati, August 12: Known for her heritage-inspired contemporary ensembles, model-turned-designer Simar Dugal, 52, passed away on Wednesday after a painful battle with pancreatic cancer.
Her demise was mourned by celebrities from the fashion and film industries.
Sharing a heartfelt tribute, ace designer Ritu Kumar wrote, “I have known Dugal’s family for a long time since my childhood in Amritsar.”
Kumar also wrote about Dugal’s initial struggles.
She wrote, “She was special to me. She had modelled for my book, The Costumes and Textiles of Royal India, and several shows that we did, telling the story of Indian crafts.”
Kumar also shared their travel diaries. She wrote, “On the ramp, she brought to the table a grace, attitude and intelligence along with beauty which was all her own and rare in the world of fashion. Her body language told a story which conveyed much more than the clothes she wore.”
Bollywood actor Malaika Arora took to Instagram. Sharing a pictures of the late supermodel, she wrote, “My eyes well up n I can’t stop the tears …. my beautiful friend, my angel, my strongest,my most compassionate sim @simardugalofficial … love u n miss u so so much …. rest in peace my friend”
Designer Rina Dhaka shared a photograph of theirs and wrote, “The most beautiful brave life ever lived..In loving memory of my beautiful friend @simardugalofficial”
A supermodel and actor from Assam, Dipannita Sharma, shared a photograph of the late designer in an ethnic attire and penned a nostalgic tribute. She wrote, “Sim Sim …my most beautiful. You looked after me when i was a newbie. Your advise on everything, i held so close to my heart. i couldn’t even see you before you said goodbye to this world . i don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who looked so ethereally stunning & had a heart to match .
