Odisha para badminton player wins gold

Pramod Bhagat wins two gold & one bronze in Dubai Para Badminton, Naveen Patnaik congratulates Odisha shuttler

Bhubaneswar, April 6:
World No.1 Pramod Bhagat won two gold medals at the Dubai Para Badminton tournament in SL4 category defeating his Indian counterpart Kumar Nitesh. 
He later took to social media to share his achievement. 
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik also congratulated the shuttler, who hails from Attabira in Bargarh district in Odisha. 


Golden joy

 The Odisha-born para badminton player, who is presently No 1 in the world, Pramod won two gold medals in the men’s singles category by defeating his opponent, Nitesh Kumar in the final by scoring 21-17 and 21-18. 
Later, Bhagat paired up with Manoj Sarkar in the men’s doubles category and bagged the gold by defeating his other two opponents, Sukant Kadam and Nitesh Kumar by making a whooping score of 21-18 and 21-16.


Bronze came calling too


Pramod, who developed a defect on his left leg when he was five years old, not only won two gold medals at Dubai Para badminton tourney, but also clinched a bronze medal in the mixed doubles. In fact, the para-badminton player has won a medal in every category that he took part in and played. 


Sharing the excitement


Meanwhile, Pramod took to social media to express his joy. He shared a photo where he is seen with his medals and wrote, “I am happy that I could contribute to Indian Medal Tally with 2 golds & 1 bronze but would have loved it to be 3 golds. Thank you so much for the immense love and support as a Para Athlete it motivates us beyond imagination.”In an interview, Pramod said that his win will help me in the build-up to the Paralympics. “After such a long gap, this is a very good return, winning two gold medals which will help me a lot in the build-up to the Paralympics. I hope to continue this kind of performance in the Paralympics,” he said.

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to congratulate Pramod for his outstanding victory at Dubai Para Badminton.
He tweeted, “Congratulations to Odia shuttler Pramod Bhagat on winning gold medals in both singles & doubles categories at the Dubai Para Badminton International 2021. Wishing him best for the future.
