Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account permanently suspended, says ‘have many platforms I can use to raise my voice’

Her Twitter account suspended after her controversial tweets on post-election poll violence in Bengal

By Anindita Acharya

Kolkata, May 3: Actor Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account has been ‘permanently suspended’ after her controversial posts on post-election poll violence in West Bengal. In a series of controversial tweets, Kangana was seen reacting to a tweet by BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta on the violence in Bengal since Assembly results were announced.
After Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress was voted back to power, clashes broke out between political parties in the state which left several injured and almost 10 killed.   The company spokesperson said the account violated Twitter rules on “hateful conduct and abusive behaviour.”

Kangana says she will continue to raise her voice

In the tweet, the actor seems to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use his ‘Virat Roop’ from ‘early 2000s’ to ‘tame’ Mamata Banerjee in Bengal.

Though her Twitter has been permanently suspended, she is least bothered. She has accused the social media networking company of racial biasness.
“Twitter has only proved my point they’re Americans and by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person, they want to tell you what to think, speak or do. I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema.”
She went on to add, “But my heart goes out to the people of this nation who have been tortured, enslaved, and censored for thousands of years, and still, there is no end to the suffering,” Kangana was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, her Instagram account, however, remains functional. There she talks about “disturbing news, videos and photos from Bengal of people being murdered, gang-raped and their houses being burnt”. She also calls for President’s Rule in Bengal. On May 5, Mamata Banerjee will be sworn in as the chief minister of the state for the third time.

Twitter reacts

A Twitter spokesperson said Kangana’s account has been suspended for repeated violations. “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy,” he said.

Kangana has a solution to oxygen shortage problem

On Monday, Kangana took to Twitter and asked the government and people to compensate for all the oxygen that “we are forcefully drawing from the environment.’ The Delhi High Court has been hearing the matter of oxygen shortage in the capital on a daily basis.

“Everybody is building more and more oxygen plants, getting tons and tons of oxygen cylinders, how are we compensating for all the oxygen that we are forcefully drawing from the environment? It seems we learnt nothing from our mistakes and catastrophes they cause #PlantTrees,” Kangana tweeted.

In the second tweet, “Along with announcing more and more oxygen for humans, governments must announce relief for nature also, people who are using this oxygen should also pledge to work on improving the air quality, for how long we going to be miserable pests only taking never giving back to nature?”

However, Twitter had a field day after her post. Rangoli Chandel’s Twitter suspended Meanwhile, Kangana’s sister and her manager Rangoli Chandel’s Twitter account has also been suspended after she posted a tweet demanding that “mullas” and secular media” be made to “stand in a line” and be killed. Chandel had also tweeted a post in favour of dictatorship, suggesting that the 2024 Lok Sabha election should be cancelled to save money and enable Narendra Modi to continue as prime minister of India.
