Kolkata, June 9: Reports of Trinamool Congress MP and Bengali actor Nusrat Jahan being separated from her husband-Kolkata businessman Nikhil Jain have been doing the rounds for some months now. There have also been reports of Nusrat’s alleged affair with Bengali actor Yash Dasgupta, who was also BJP’s candidate for Assembly election. Ever since there have been reports of Nusrat becoming a mother, the rumour of her dating Yash has only gathered momentum. Finally, Nusrat broke her silence on marriage. But her revelation has raked up a fresh controversy. The TMC MP said that her marriage with Nikhil is “invalid” as it was held as per the Turkish Marriage Regulations.
Nusrat tied the knot with Nikhil in a ceremony in the presence of family and friends in Bodrum in Turkey in June, 2019. Later, the couple threw a lavish wedding reception in Kolkata, where chief minister Mamata Banerjee was also present.
Not marriage but live-in relationship, claims Nusrat
Nusrat released an official statement where she said that as per “Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid.” Nusrat also said that since Nikhil and she had an interfaith marriage, it required the validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen. Therefore, as per the court of law, it is not “marriage but a relationship or a live-in relationship.” “Thus the question of divorce does not arise,” she said.
“Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid. Moreover, since it was an interfaith marriage, it requires validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen. As per the court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Thus, the question of divorce does not arise. Our separation happened long back, but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself. Thus, my actions must not be questioned based on “separation”, by the media or anybody I am not related to. The alleged marriage is not legal, valid and tenable; and thus, was not a marriage at all in the eye of the law,” the statement read.
Nusrat to file a police complaint
TMC MP and popular Bengali actress Nusrat Jahan has also alleged that Nikhil had illegally withdrawn money from her bank account by accessing her accounts at night.
“The one who claims to be “rich” and “been used by me” has been taking money from my account by accessing my bank accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd-hours of the night, even post-separation. She said she has already taken this up with the concerned banking authority and said that a police complaint would be filed shortly.”
“In the past, details of all family accounts were handed over to him, upon his requests and none of me or my family members was aware of any instructions given to the bank via our accounts. He has also been mishandling my funds from various accounts without my knowledge and consent. I am still battling it out with the bank & if need be, would release proof of the same,” the statement read.
“Also, my belongings, including my Clothes, Bags and Accessories still remain with them. I am disheartened and disappointed to state that all my family jewellery, given to me by my parents, friends and extended family, including my own hard-earned assets has been illegally held back by them.”
“Our separation happened long back, but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself. Thus, my actions must not be questioned based on “separation”, she said.
Nikhil Jain filed for annulment
Meanwhile, Nikhil Jain revealed that he has filed for an annulment in Kolkata. He said that he has been separated from Nusrat since November 2020. He also refused to comment on the matter as it is in court. “I have filed a civil suit in Kolkata and I will not comment on it till it is in court,” he said.
Amit Malviya question her oath
Though Nusrat Jahan has called her marriage with Nikhil Jain ‘invalid’, BJO IT cell chief Amit Malviya reminded the TMC Basirhat MP and Bengali actor how she had taken her oath in the Parliament as “Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain” after her victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
“TMC MP Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain’s personal life, who she is married to or who she is living in with, should not be anyone’s concern. But she is an elected representative and is on record in the Parliament that she is married to Nikhil Jain. Did she lie on the floor of the House?,” posted Malviya.https://twitter.com/amitmalviya/status/1402867257856905216
